We are working towards progressing our Treaty of Waitangi Claims with the Crown. Below are some of the claims we have raised, and demonstration of our hapū as kaitiaki of our rohe.

Marine and Coastal Claim Area
Ngati Kuta are claiming the right of exclusive access and recognition of our customary rights to our lands, coastline, waterways and seabed.
Mana Whenua and Mana Moana
Ngati Kuta are key kaitiaki (guardians) of the lands and sea in our rohe (region). We made this evidence submission to Northland Regional Council in 2021.
Rawhiti Road
Part of our Waitangi Claims is for compensation for the road that carved up our whenua and was cut through a path we didn’t agree.
Te Araaka Wahi Tapu
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga has listed Te Araaka as a place of significance in Te Rāwhiti as a Wāhi Tapu (Sacred) Area.
Mangahāwea Bay
The evidence for this claim is continuing to grow as research continues about this ancient settlement in the Bay of Islands.
