Marine and Coastal Claim Area
Below is our closing submission to the Waitangi Tribunal regarding MACCA, the Marine and Coastal Claim Area. We are claiming the right of exclusive access and recognition of our customary rights to our lands, coastline, waterways and seabed. The current law says public access is granted to access Maori land like Cape Brett. They call it the Queen’s Chain. We say it is a privilege with our permission as the land owner and not the governments right to take a 20mtr coastal strip from the mean high water mark around all Maori land.
